The floor and some walls were to be retained into the new building plus a second storey was added within a gabled roofline following the sites recession planes. We had to work with three different cladding building materials, schist, brick and plaster and cedar.
Being an old building we had to work to tight recession planes and underpin the building platform to increase the structural strength of the building. Many more new features have been added to make this home for modern living including a home office, new open plan kitchen, master bedroom upstairs and more storage space. Careful planning and utilisation of every square metre of space were needed to maximise the narrow, restricted site.
